  • Composer is the PHP package management system.
  • composer.typo3.org is the TYPO3 composer repository to get TER extensions from.
  • It’s planned to develop a generic UI for composer that might replace the extension manager in the future.
  • TYPO3 7.3 (scheduled for June 9th 2015) will focus mainly on composer.

Introduction

What has happened in the last year?

Release of Neos 1.0 in December 2013, New Neos Website (based on Neos), Release of Neos 1.1 in June 2014, Multilanguage support is considered in the architecture since quite some time but is not finished, Neos Content Dimensions, Release Party

How does Neos gain acceptance?

There were TYPO3 conferences in North America and Asia, TYPO3 CMS is trying to gain ground outside of central europe since a long time, Flow attracts new people from the PHP community, there is lack of marketing, most TYPO3 agencies still work with TYPO3 CMS, TYPO3 CMS was improved by backporting ideas and concepts from Neos/Flow

More about Neos

Typoscript2 is glue, out-of-band rendering, Inside Typoscript, Flow has great caching features and is quite fast, release planing, either multi language or user rights management could be the big feature of 1.2, Neos’ release planing differs from TYPO3CMS because it’s in a different situation, JIRA for Neos, Neos follows semantic versioning

The team and its value

The team values: Humility, Respect, Responsibility, Trust. Get support at neos@typo3.org, there’s a helpdesk solution behind it, there’s 1 team for Neos and Flow

Introduction & Sponsor

Guest

  • Michael Stucki (@stucki)
  • TYPO3 server team leader

Tasks of the server team

History

  • Earlier different Companies managed different projects and websites on their own.
  • Starting at the T3DD11 most of the infrastructure was collected under the umbrella of the new team.

Forge and Versioning

  • The team converts SVN based projects to git on request. It’s also possible to use the Gerrit review system for your project.
  • The teams works on upgrading Forge – it’s difficult
  • Use Git, because it’s better and makes the server team’s lives easier

Mailing Lists

  • The mailing lists are also available as newsgroups
  • And there’s even a forum interface that is in sync with the mailing lists.

Future tasks

  • Debian Update on all Servers
  • Maybe a system similar to stackoverflow. questions.typo3.org?

Introduction & Sponsor

Guests: Ben & Anja

  • Ben van ‘t Ende (@benvantende) – TYPO3 Community Manager
  • Anja Leichsenring (@maddy2101) – One of the Extbase team leaders

Women in the community

  • Anja: It was easy to come into the community.
  • Ben: Estimated 1-2% women in the community. In general projects benefit from a good women-men-balance.
  • Anja: Sometimes I’m the guard for manners.
  • Ben: We think about having day care at events or even discount vouchers on event fees for women.
  • Anja: I do better in male dominated groups and can take bad jokes.
  • We are a white male community – what can we do about it?
  • Anja: If harassment happens, people have to stand up against it.
  • Ben: We have a really friendly and social community.
  • Sebastian: There’s always room for improvement. Look how other communities and events handle it. Good example: Anti Harassment Policy of the CCC. Bad example: Creeper Cards on the 29C3 event (not re:publica, sorry).
